* * * Cathedral Fortress

Lay awake for about two hours, then had this lucid dream between 4:30 and 5:20. At this point in my practice, I had been lucid dreaming regularly, and had begun corresponding with a handful of other lucid dreamers also fascinated by the idea (with all its spiritual ramifications) of trying to meet in the dream space.
Lucid Dream of 10/13/2015
I find myself walking through a well lit corridor in a sprawling building. Here and there, I encounter people I feel I have seen before, and know well, yet I cannot really place them. When again this happens as I enter a room, I abruptly remember my intent—to find James—and become lucid. I quickly walk out onto a balcony, which I somehow knew would be there. It is a moderately long stone balcony, extending a few feet on either side of me, but it is not very deep, and there is an odd white semi-circular “stone awning” curving over the front of it, so that I only get a partial view. The space between it and the stone edge I'm standing at is large enough, especially on both sides, for me to fly through, so I feel free to pause there. It is daylight, and the moment I stepped out onto the balcony, I said, “My Lord! I am here...” I don't recall exactly what I say now, but I essentially request help in finding James, and perhaps even ask if James is already here.
I remain on this balcony for some time studying my surroundings. I can see a good distance on all three sides, but it's hard to grasp what I'm looking at, exactly. The one feature that stands out in sharp, highly lucid detail, are the corners/borders of the great courtyard before me, the ceiling of which ostensibly merges with the building behind me. This “courtyard” is both open and partially enclosed/protected, and the ground is what vaguely appears to be smooth brown dirt and/or sand. The corners of the great structure I am still inside of are constructed of individual bricks of an almost luminous gray-white stone, and the best way to describe them is as “truncated Cathedral buttresses.” In Cathedrals, flying buttress columns rise upward, and curve to merge with, while also supporting, the arched ceiling. Well, what I see in the dream appear to be the tops of Cathedral buttresses, as though the rest of them are buried deep in the ground, and yet they are as broad as walls.
I don't know what this place is, yet I recognize it deep inside me, and I feel profoundly safe here despite the fact that I'm obviously in a war zone. For through the openings between the buttresses, directly in front of me and to my right, I make out gently undulating ground, sand or dirt, and, at a not so great distance, the figures of men in the heat of combat, aiming various weapons at this inner sanctuary. The people here—which I sense more than see in groups here and there—are defending themselves, but I can't really discern how.
I turn to my left, drift off the balcony, and perch lightly on the ground. I don't want to go searching for James, that doesn't feel like the right approach, so I consider willing a portal to open, and bring him to me, or take me to him. But my heart really isn't into this old technique, and I'm too intrigued by where I am to force the issue, so after making a couple of halfhearted mental attempts, I abandon that idea. I begin walking, and suddenly, just a few yards away in the direction of the building proper, at one of the open corners, I distinctly see a man standing in profile to me. He's wearing some sort of one-piece uniform such as a pilot might wear, with a mask that covers half his face; protection of some kind. He has light hair, but as I stare at him, his hair darkens... and he looks like James! I hurry over to him, and eagerly ask, “James?!”
The man removes the mask, and his hair is sandy colored again, his complexion slightly pale. Even as he replies, “No” I realize he isn't James. Then he asks me, “Who is James?”

“James is my friend... Are you a lucid dreamer, too?” He doesn't answer, although he does look directly at me for an instant. He has already begun walking, so I fall into stride with him, asking, “Do you know where I can find James?”

“No,” he replies briskly, “you should ask Kowalski.”

“Kowalski?” I repeat, but this is a war zone, and he is obviously busy, on his way somewhere specific. As I follow him—flanked now by a handful of other silent men—I get a good look at a container filled with orange missile-shaped objects trimmed in white. We have left the covered area of the cathedral/fortress, and are climbing a gradually ascending slope. We first went up a few feet, then took a sharp left, and now we make a sharp right, in a kind of zigzag. I keep looking around me at various details of the scene in order to stay rooted in the dream. I tell my companion, “I have a limited amount of time” meaning I need to talk to this Kowalski person right now if possible.

“That's something I can understand...” he replies, then adds mysteriously, “This was a good idea.”

As I jump onto the edge of what appears to be an open truck bed, I become aware of a young man wearing a trench coat like the one sported by the hero in the first Terminator movie. At the same moment, it occurs to me to ask sharply, “What year is this?” and as I begin walking beside him, he looks straight at me as he very clearly says, “2536.”

Wow. . . This is the future?! We are quite high up now, and the 360 degree view far below and all around us does indeed look apocalyptic. Interspersed by flat brown, dead-looking patches of ground are what I can only describe as thin, partially burned out, mile-high skyscrapers, and/or massive construction cranes. There is metal everywhere, and a full scale war has obviously been raging for some time, for years, maybe even decades. I can see for miles all around, but it's hard to remember exactly what I saw, which included squarish structures resembling partially bombed out buildings, and massive vehicles, weapons, fortifications, etc. I seem to be looking at the remains of our current civilization, which is being used and modified for constant battle and survival. The dimensions are incredible.
We continue ascending, up and up, as below us, and seemingly all across the country (the world?) a ceaseless battle rages. And yet, where we are—literally above it all—everything is almost hauntingly still. We seem to be making our way along the winding edge of an immense mountainside, because I can see directly below me, as well as all around me.
But something is happening; my attention is caught by a flash of light. Looking over my shoulder, I observe what appears to be silver lightning zigzagging along a wire strung on poles and moving up from where we just came from, but before reaching us abruptly veering right into something akin to electrical poles connected to each other. This intense energy-power is moving so fast, in just a few seconds it reaches the goal-like end and leaps off it into a dark section of sky in the form of a man's silhouette. I cry, “What the heck was that?!” and then think—Who the heck was that?!

Still moving swiftly upward, my companion in the Terminator trench coat—who I feel perfectly comfortable with—tells me, “I'm glad you came. It's good to see a woman again.”

“What happened to women?” I demand, wondering how on earth the human race is surviving without them.

His response is chilling, “If the enemy is going to poison your system...” and he tells me how the enemy prefers to do this, but I can't remember now what he said.

Suddenly, I realize there is no longer ground beneath us, and me and this group of “future warriors” are flying, turning in the sky, seemingly in the direction of another mountaintop. “We're flying!” I cry, which is perfectly normal for me since I'm dreaming, but these guys aren't, they're in the waking world of the future, 2536 to be precise, so how can they be flying? The thought flashes through my mind—Have they developed this mysterious skill to compensate for the loss of so much else?
My companion says, “If you're going to do something...” but before he finishes the sentence I wake up.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.”

Matthew 25:34-36
I begin my Dream Notes with what my lucid dreaming "partner" Sean and I each wrote about this dream the morning after we were attempting to meet in the dream space. At the time I was not who I have since become; my dreams were in the process of leading me fully back to the Catholic faith in which I was raised, but in which I was never properly educated, so I had a lot of catching up to do. Back then, I didn't even think about 2536 as possibly being related to passages in Scripture, so there was no way I was able to interpret this amazing dream from a Biblical perspective. I simply took it for granted 2536 was a date over 500 years in the future.
Original Dream Notes:
There are many layers to this dream. One involves Sean, who emailed me that morning as I was busy writing down my dream.
Last night was the best. I had a nice long spontaneous lucid (it is happening more and more now since I decided not to do the 'G' anymore) and you were with me, we were flying to some church. But I stared at my hands, and became 'more' aware of my lucidity, then I panicked and realized that my dream would end soon. I also realized thinking of this would only make the dream end sooner. I have a real problem with that at the moment; seems like a novice thing. Anyway, as I said we were traveling, flying together to a Cathedral high up on a hill. The sky was blue and we were just having a really great time. Perhaps you can remember more of the dream?

I also recall you were very much leading me in the dream, you were flying in front, wanting to show me this Cathedral. We'd just come from somewhere else, but I can't remember from where at the moment.

My email reply to Sean:
When I first saw that man wearing a uniform and mask, his hair was your color, but then it was James' color as he literally morphed into someone else while I studied him, wanting it to be James (another close lucid dreaming friend.)

Writing the dream up now, I'm struck by how I saw only great machines, and was aware of a struggle, a battle, being waged between two sides. Then that lightning—a quickening—which became a man leaping off what appeared to be a dark precipice, but he was actually intending to do that, as though he had been caught in the flow of power, but was also a part of it. I'm reminded of James' idea of the Source, and how it interacts with us, like a great machine. Then there is my completely different Christian view of God as all loving and Who forms mysteriously intimate relationships with us. It's as though my dream manifested both James' beliefs and mine, and how they are in conflict with each other. In the dream, I felt this male shadow believed he could ride that power and become one with it, but it was clear to my dreaming soul that he merely plunged into an abyss.

That is one interpretation, which can also lead to another—that humanity is fighting this same battle, this same conflict between atheist materialism and faith, and between religions, with Christians being specifically targeted by fundamentalist Muslims. Yet we were all safe in the shelter of the Cathedral, its buttresses sunk deep in the earth—more than two-thousand years of Christianity, which is spreading like wildfire in the Middle East, in China and in Africa despite brutal persecution, with countless people everyday becoming disciples of Christ, many as a result of a dream in which He appears to them.

Then, of course, there are places on earth right now that are devastated by constant conflict, and my dream seems to have been a collage of many such locations, all grouped together into one vast desolate landscape. Really intriguing is the young man telling me the year was 2536, and then observing that it was good to see a woman again. In the end, I was flying toward another mountain top. . . which synchs with your dream Sean, as does the Cathedral at the heart of your dream.

When we all began flying together as if in a dream, I wondered if this was a skill people in the future had developed to compensate for the loss of so much else—We have lost so much already, spiritually speaking. Perhaps this skill-gift is lucid dreaming, and how through the power of the Holy Spirit it can restore to our souls much of what we have lost and lead us to Scripture, where we will find all we need.

After he read my email Sean wrote:
Wow! What a dream Maria! I agree, the man at the end sounded like me, or I was seeing things through his eyes. You see, up until I looked at my hands I was sort of 'semi' lucid, so following where the dream was going but knowing it was a dream, and also knowing it was with you. So perhaps I was seeing things through this guys eyes, or perhaps I was just involved with the story. The cathedral you started the dream from sounded very much like the place I found myself in, because now I recall that at the end of my dream, while trying to stay in the dream, we were inside the Cathedral, and the description fits how you described where you found yourself. The whole future war sounds fascinating, and I wish I could remember the start of my dream to compare with it. Anyway, I very much enjoyed seeing your Cathedral yesterday! So thanks for that.

Present Day Dream Notes:
I imagine and believe it is possible I dreamed of a time after the first Rapture, near the end of the Great Tribulation and just before the Second Coming of Christ, when Jesus will rapture all new believers into the air to meet him.

"Some Bible interpreters believe there will be no chance for salvation after the Rapture. However, no passages in Scripture exist to support this theory. People will still be able to come to Christ during the Great Tribulation. Many will be beheaded for their faith (Revelation 20:4) And Revelation 6:9-11 speaks of those martyred during the Great Tribulation because of the word of God and the testimony they gave. The antichrist and his minions will persecute and kill many precisely because even after the first Rapture people will still be able to come to knowledge of and faith in Christ.

Matthew 25:36

I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.

Matthew 25
"Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn't take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. "At midnight they were roused by the shout, 'Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!' "All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, 'Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.' "But the others replied, 'We don't have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.' "But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, 'Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!' "But he called back, 'Believe me, I don't know you!' "So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

The Parable of the Talents

"Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last-dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. "The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master's money.

"After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, 'Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.'

"The master was full of praise. 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together! ' "The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.' "The master said, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together!'

"Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, 'Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn't plant and gathering crops you didn't cultivate. I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.' "But the master replied, 'You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn't plant and gathered crops I didn't cultivate, why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.' Then he ordered, 'Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

The Judgment of the Nations

"But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me'."

Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs? He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me. And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
